The UP Experience is an annual thought-leader conference held one day each October in Greater Houston, featuring domain-expert speakers from every area of work and culture. The purpose is to inspire, entertain and challenge by offering unique perspectives from unique people. Speakers are hand-selected for their expertise and ability to communicate passionately and succinctly. The UP Experience schedules time for attendees to meet and talk with all speakers. This is the only conference of this breadth and quality offered on America’s South Coast.
The UP Experience imports state-of-the-art knowledge into Greater Houston enterprise, education, arts, and lifestyle. New insights and data are taken away by the participants, where it informs their goals and projects and impacts their activities and friends.
2012 will be the fifth year of The UP Experience.
One Day
This is a one-day, all-participants-hear-all-presenters, once-a-year event.
. There are 16 presentations given from 8:30am-4:30 pm, all in the same theatre.
. The presentations are approximately 20 minutes each.
. There is a break after each 4 sessions to meet individually with speakers and for food.
. Lunch is catered and there is a reception immediately following the last session.
Speakers
The UP Experience features hand-selected, prominent, national and international speakers who are experts in their fields, whose fields are relevant, and who are excellent speakers.
All speakers are of national or international repute. Past speakers include Steve Wozniak, Ray Kurzweil, Neil Degrasse Tyson, Michael Eisner, and David Pogue.
Approximately 15% of the speakers are also prominent Houstonians. For example, Stephen Klineberg (Rice University) spoke at the 2011 conference as did Brené Brown (University of Houston).
Many are speakers who’d not be heard in Houston but for the conference; for example, Gavin Newsom (Mayor of San Francisco), Dr. Robert Ballard (undersea explorer and discoverer of The Titanic), Sal Kahn (founder of Kahn Academy), and Benjamin Zander (Conductor of The Boston Philharmonic).
