However, OpenOffice and Gimp give you equivalent document creation and editing powers for no cost. You still have to learn how to use them but that is true whether you use the commercial or open-source alternatives.

OpenOffice is available for download at: http://www.openoffice.org/. It includes Impress (compare to PowerPoint), Writer (compare to Word), Calc (compare to Excel) and Draw (compare to Visio).

Gimp (compare to PhotoShop) is available for download at: http://www.gimp.org/.
