Politics in Fiction – A Brief Review

Jago_inheritorI can’t think of a more pungent contrast in politics than between House of Cards, either the UK or US video drama version, and the Foreigner science fiction series by C.J. Cherryh, now in it’s 13th and counting installment. In both cases we have gorgeous drama with elites, staffs, multiple agendas, shenanigans, and life and death consequences. But in the case of HC it’s classic Greek tragedy, where the elite eventually fail, betrayed by their base impulses, while in the case of FS our heroes and heroines ultimately prevail, carrying forward for the greater good of all. Which story line, dark or light, inspires you most?
